Selena’s Father Can Sue Her Widower Over TV Series, Judge Rules

A Texas judge has ruled that the father of late singer Selena Quintanilla has the right to sue her widower Chris Perez over telling their story in a new television series.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports that State District Judge Guy Williams sided with Abraham Quintanilla’s claims that Perez signed away the rights to Selena's likeness and name to her estate after she was fatally shot in 1995.

Meanwhile, lawyers for Perez argued that Quintanilla’s lawsuit against him stifles free speech rights. Perez reportedly wants to adapt for television To Selena With Love, his memoir of his life with the music icon.
